Destiny 2 Making Big Change to Bright Dust and Removing Pathfinder System

Following the controversy surrounding the recent changes to many of Destiny 2‘s core mechanics, Bungie has announced plans to make Bright Dust a resource that players can farm for infinitely in an update set to arrive later this year. While Bright Dust and the pace of earning cosmetics aren’t quite at the top of the game’s problem list right now, this change should help players feel more rewarded for their time investment in the long run. It will be bolstered by another change coming later in 2025 that plans to replace Destiny 2‘s Pathfinder function with a new, even easier daily objective system.

Destiny 2‘s currency ecosystem has been in pretty constant flux over the past several years, and many players have hoped for a method that allows them to earn Bright Dust more consistently. This particular resource is essentially the game’s freely earned parallel to its premium currency, Silver, and can be used to purchase a range of cosmetic items such as legendary armor ornaments, emotes, sparrows, weapon skins, and more. The selection of items that can be bought with Bright Dust rotates each week, though some things in Destiny 2‘s in-game store, such as certain armor ornament sets, typically can’t be unlocked with Bright Dust.

Destiny 2 Edge of Fate Announces Big Changes to Vendors and Inventory

Bungie confirms that Tower vendors in Destiny 2 are seeing major changes within The Edge of Fate, including the weekend exotic merchant Xur.

With players currently only able to earn a limited amount of Bright Dust in Destiny 2 from various challenges each week, Bungie has announced plans to add a new source of the currency that players will be able to farm limitlessly. This change is planned to arrive later in the year with the Renegades expansion, and will help Guardians chase the cosmetics they’re after without having to spend real money. More importantly, though, this change should help players feel more adequately rewarded for the time they put into the game and its various activities, assuming Bungie implements the planned feature in a way that works comfortably for players.

This Change Is One Small Step Toward Solving One of Destiny 2’s Biggest Issues

Further, Bungie plans to replace the Pathfinder system – a feature that was only introduced last year with The Final Shape expansion – with an easier and less complex daily challenge system. This change is set to come later in 2025 with Destiny 2‘s Renegades expansion and will provide an unlimited number of simple challenges for players to chip away at to ensure that gameplay feels more rewarding, regardless of the activity playlist they choose. It seems like the Pathfinder exclusive to the Pale Heart destination will remain unaffected by these future changes.

The launch of Destiny 2‘s new Edge of Fate expansion has brought big changes to plenty of existing systems, from armor stats to UI, although many of the latest tweaks to the game have been met with harsh criticism from players. A declining number of total players and monumentally low player count on the launch day of Destiny 2‘s latest expansion has left many concerned about the game’s direction and its future as a whole as it enters a completely new saga.
