Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Aerith Situation Helps Make Things Even With One Other Character

Last year, many players were left stunned as the credits rolled on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for the first time. After years of speculation and debate circled around one of the biggest emotional moments of the original Final Fantasy 7, fans ended the second part of the Remake trilogy with so many questions on their minds that outweighed any answers they might have gained. Hardly anyone expected to go through Aerith’s death scene with no idea if she actually lived or not.

With the answer completely left up to interpretation for now, it seems that players will have to look to the new installment for answers. The scene with Aerith talking to Cloud at the end may be a normal part of the follow-up to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and this is great for fans even if the circumstances in the plot aren’t the best. The Final Fantasy 7 Remake project still has to tell the story of the Northern Crater and everything that came afterward. The Northern Crater marks a significant shift in the game’s story where Tifa takes over in Cloud’s absence. Final Fantasy 7 Remake may have teased some differences, but the overall direction of both games makes it all but certain that Tifa will need to take over the party to find Cloud after he awakens Sephiroth in the Northern Crater. Seeing these moments redone in the way only the Remake project could pull off will be an emotional time for Cloud and Tifa fans, especially considering the prominence behind the two of them unraveling Cloud’s past together to uncover who he really is.

It’s clear that after the Northern Crater, Tifa will be in the spotlight for a large portion of Final Fantasy 7 Remake part 3. If things were a bit more straightforward, Aerith fans might have had to swallow the idea of the final game omitting her entirely beyond flashbacks and mentions. Now, at the very least, it seems she may stick around between these glitch-like segments or by haunting Cloud like she does in Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children, at least until Cloud knows what’s going on or makes peace with his pain. The circumstances might not be the best, but at the very least, Aerith seemingly won’t be absent from the next game and might have a bigger role than one would expect from a character meant to be dead.

The potential behind what interactions fans can get from additional scenes with Aerith is endless after how Rebirth gave players a strange secondary world to take her on a date in. Tragic undertones from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth might permeate the scenes throughout, even during choices that might emphasize the potential romantic relationship between Cloud and Aerith. The silver lining to it, though, is that Aerith’s storyline will expand beyond what she had in the original FF7 game, which has been one of the biggest goals of the Remake project from the start.

Everything in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is leading to a climactic finale with the third entry, and just how much Aerith is going to be a part of that is still in the air. At the very least, she may be gone, but she isn’t “out” yet, so to speak, which means players can look forward to seeing her in some capacity alongside Tifa’s upcoming limelight.
