Sparks are an incredibly important part of Umamusume: Pretty Derby, and their random nature can be very frustrating for trainers who want to breed very specific horses for careers or Team Trials. Getting a 3-star Spark for the stat you want will take dozens of Umamusume career runs, so there’s a long grind ahead of you.
Sparks influence the stat bonuses that your Umamusume receives during career mode. Your trainee starts with an initial stat boost based on their Legacies, but they also have the chance to become inspired even further at specific moments during their career. Each Umamusume gets their own set of Sparks after completing a career, giving them the chance to pass on their knowledge to even more horses.

For those wondering how to train Umamusume: Pretty Derby and complete their careers, here’s a simple guide that walks you through each step.
How to Get Sparks in Umamusume: Pretty Derby
Sparks are obtained after completing a career run with any horse girl in Umamusume. After every career run, your trainee will receive at least one blue Spark and one pink Spark. Blue Sparks are tied to the five main training stats, while pink Sparks represent aptitudes for track types, distances, and racing strategies.
There are also green and white Sparks, but they’re less common. Any 3-star Umamusume (whether they be SSRs or other upgraded horse girls) is guaranteed to get a green Spark at the end of a career run. Green sparks represent unique skills, so you can pass on unique skills to other horses via Legacies this way.
White Sparks represent regular skills and certain G1 races, and they have a random chance to appear at the end of a career run. White Sparks for skills will give your trainee hint levels for the listed skill, while white Sparks from races give unique buffs depending on the listed race. Some race Sparks increase stats, while others grant skill hints.
How to Get 3-Star Sparks in Umamusume: Pretty Derby
All Sparks in Umamusume have a rating from one to three stars. The more stars a Spark has, the stronger the inspiration effect will be. The number of stars a Spark gets is mostly random, but there are a few ways to improve your chances.
Blue Sparks are the main place where you’ll want three stars, and you can increase the chances of getting a three-star stat Spark by raising your trainee’s stats high enough during their career. The type of blue Spark you get is completely random (it’s an even 20% chance for each of the five stats), but the odds of getting a higher star rating increase as your trainee’s stat numbers improve. The table below shows the chances of each star rating depending on your Umamusume‘s stats at the end of a career run.
Skill Value |
1-Star Spark |
2-Star Spark |
3-Star Spark |

As you can see from the table above, the odds of getting a three-star Spark are incredibly low, even if you completely max out a stat with a perfect 1200 rating. Remember that there’s no way to guarantee you’ll get a blue Spark for your desired stat, either, so you can end up with a one-star Spark for something completely useless even if you do everything right.
On the other hand, pink, green, and white Sparks are all completely random. You can’t really influence your chances of getting these or making them show up with more stars.
The best way to farm for three-star Sparks is to get as many of your Umamusume‘s stats to 600 as possible and hope for the best. Even if you cross the 600-point threshold, the chance of getting a three-star Spark for your desired stat is very slim.
With that said, you’ll eventually get some decent Sparks just by playing the game, and you can always borrow Legacies from other Umamusume players to make things easier. Sparks aren’t everything, either. You’ll still need strong Support Cards to win races at the end of the day.
