Developer Microids has announced a brand-new entry into the long-running Asterix & Obelix series, with Mission Babylon set to launch later this year on PS5. While the series may not be among the most prolific franchises in gaming, the Asterix & Obelix series has a long and storied history of video game adaptations. Based on a French comic book series, the franchise has produced a litany of games, starting as early as 1983’s Asterix and continuing to see new releases to this day. Now, the franchise is set to receive a new local co-op game later this year.
Local co-op games have seen a major resurgence throughout the past few years, off the back of multiple award-winning games. Hazelight Studios’ 2021 co-op platformer game It Takes Two saw rave reviews from fans following its release, even winning Game of the Year at the 2021 Game Awards. The genre has seen plenty of games go viral in the online space as well, with games like Chained Together seeing success among many top content creators. Now, Asterix and Obelix is pushing its way into the co-op space.

Developer Microids officially revealed Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon as a brand-new co-op entry in the series. The short announcement trailer showed off the titular characters operating a variety of different devices, using hoists to raise and lower different platforms and objects. The co-op platformer’s Steam page also hints at twenty different levels across four unique worlds, teasing the game’s humorous story as Asterix and Obelix battle against the Roman Empire. Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon is scheduled to release in October 2025 on PS5, Switch, and PC.

The newest Asterix & Obelix game comes as the franchise has been busy throughout recent years with a plethora of remasters. The Asterix & Obelix series released a new game every year from 2018 through 2023, with 2023 even receiving two games within just over a month of one another. The franchise has largely been more popular in Europe and Australia, however, with only a fraction of the series’ library releasing in other regions.
Asterix and Obelix: Mission Babylon will join plenty of exciting games expected to launch throughout the second half of 2025 on PS5. Both Gears of War: Reloaded and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Remake are scheduled to launch next month, serving as some of the biggest releases of the year. A plethora of major franchises also have new releases scheduled for the fall, including Ninja Gaiden, Borderlands, and Silent Hill. Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon looks to be a fun and humorous co-op game that should be perfect for a good laugh with friends when it launches later this year.
