Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s new Wisdom of Sea and Sky expansion came out with two booster packs, one dedicated to Ho-Oh and the other Lugia, and it mostly features Gen 2 critters and a spotlight on Johto characters and trainers from the games. An example comes from the new Hiker Supporter or the Fisher Supporter, which are callbacks to the regular trainer one would encounter in the region in Pokemon Gold and Silver. Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s new Umbreon Ex makes for a powerful deck when combined with Sylveon Ex as a draw engine and Greninja as a way to target benched Pokemon, but there’s another great deck that players can build that uses different cards, including Nihilego.
Nihilego was released in the Extradimensional Crisis set after Celestial Guardians, and it immediately saw play in more passive decks like Darkrai Ex and Giratina Ex alongside tools like Poison Barb. In fact, Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Nihilego is not overtly strong in and of itself, with 70 HP and an attack that deals 30 damage and applies Poison for two Energy, but its power resides in its More Poison ability, which makes the opposing Pokemon take 10 more damage with each tick of Poison. This is a very strong ability that stacks with two Nihilego on the field, and it works wonders with the new Crobat Ex.

Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Best Crobat Ex Deck Explained
Though it’s very early in the new release, a new S-tier Pokemon TCG Pocket deck is already seeing play and even a lot of success. This is because the new Crobat Ex has 170 HP, it’s weak to Fighting, it has a retreat cost of one, and it attacks for just 1 Darkness Energy with Venomous Slash. The attack deals 70 damage, which for a single Energy is already very good, and on top of that, it Poisons the opposing Pokemon. This is perfect for a Nihilego combo, and it makes the deck very powerful and fast. The list can include:
- 2x Zubat (Wisdom of Sea and Sky)
- 2x Rare Candy (Celestial Guardians)
- 2x Crobat Ex (Wisdom of Sea and Sky)
- 1x or 2x Nihilego (Extradimensional Crisis)
- 2x Eevee (Wisdom of Sea and Sky)
- 2x Sylveon Ex (Eevee Grove)
- 2x Poke Ball (Promo)
- 2x Professor’s Research (Promo)
- 1x or 2x Giant Cape (Space-Time Smackdown)
- 1x or 2x Lillie (Celestial Guardians)
- 2-3 Trainer cards between Sabrina, Cyrus, Red Card, Mars, Guzma, and Silver
Guzma could be a top pick in this deck because of the new Steel Apron tool, which would make Solgaleo Ex and Skarmory Ex decks near impossible to win against.
Why Nihilego is Key to Winning With Crobat Ex Decks in Pokemon TCG Pocket
As much as Crobat Ex deals good damage with Venomous Slash and its Poison effect, Nihilego carries the strategy by making each Poison tick deal 20 or 30 damage, depending on whether one plays one or two copies of this Pokemon in the deck. What follows is that Crobat Ex deals 90 damage or even 100 with Nihilego, making it a crucial element of the deck, alongside Sylveon Ex for drawing cards, because 70 damage plus 10 of Poison wouldn’t be enough to KO some Ex cards even in two turns.
Interestingly, Nihilego’s name literally means “I am nothing” in Latin, and while the card is not great on its own, Crobat Ex makes it very powerful and reliable even in competitive matches. This makes Nihilego much more than “nothing,” despite its name’s origin.
With just one Nihilego on the bench, set A4’s Crobat Ex will deal 70 damage immediately and 20 at the end of the turn, and if the opposing Pokemon survives, it will take another 20 damage at the end of the opponent’s turn unless it’s healed with cards like Pokemon Center Lady, evolved, or retreated to the bench. If this doesn’t happen, taking 110 damage from Venomous Slash and Poison combined will most likely make Crobat Ex’s next attack KO the opposing Pokemon, which is very strong considering this can be achieved as soon as the second turn.
On top of that, Wisdom of Sea and Sky added Baby Pokemon to Pokemon TCG Pocket, and they have 30 HP. Some are seeing play already, like Pichu and Magby, and even the regular Zubat from set A4 can one-shot them with Nihilego, as it deals 10 damage for 1 Energy and then applies Poison, so that amounts to 30 damage in one turn. While Crobat Ex is the main attacker and Sylveon Ex is what makes the deck consistent in drawing all the necessary cards, Nihilego is the glue that keeps everything together.
