The next school year is expected to be an exciting yet busy time for the Pokemon franchise. For one, the next mainline Pokemon game, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will launch on October 16 for Nintendo Switch platforms, bringing back the fan-favorite Kalos region and Mega Evolution mechanic. February 2026 will additionally mark Pokemon‘s 30th anniversary, with many fans expecting exciting game announcements to celebrate the milestone.
While details on Pokemon’s Generation 10 games were absent from the July 2025 Pokemon Presents event, many supposed leaks and rumors have begun popping up detailing aspects of the upcoming dual Pokemon games. One such leak suggests that one forgotten Johto Pokemon may finally get a place in the spotlight it’s long deserved: the Owl Pokemon, Noctowl.
Pokemon Gen 10’s Noctowl Leak Explained
For several Pokemon Generations now, new Pokemon regions have been based on certain real-world countries and areas instead of being based on regions of Japan. For example, Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal’s Johto region is based on the Kansai region in Japan, while Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Paldea region is based on Spain, Portugal, and Andorra’s Iberian Peninsula. New supposed leaks about Pokemon Generation 10 seem to be continuing this trend by claiming that the new dual mainline Pokemon games will take place in the “Xenia region” based on Greece’s many islands found in the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas.
According to the leak from 4chan, each island will be distinct from one another, but both games will focus heavily on Flying and Water-type Pokemon with the two mascot legendary Pokemon supposedly being a pure Flying-type horse and a pure Water-type horse. On top of these new Pokemon games continuing the setting trend, the Generation 10 titles will additionally supposedly continue introducing new regional variants and evolutions of preexisting Pokemon, which first began in Pokemon Sun and Moon. Only one new regional form and one new regional evolution are listed in the leak, those being an Electric-type Meowth variant and a new Psychic/Flying-type evolution of Noctowl.
The Potential of a Xenian Noctowl Evolution
If the 4chan leak of Pokemon Generation 10 turns out to be true, these games may finally be the time for Noctowl to truly shine in the Pokemon franchise, aside from Ash Ketchum owning a Shiny Noctowl in the Pokemon anime. Given the Greek-inspired region and legendary horse Pokemon seemingly being based on a hippocampus and a pegasus, granting Noctowl a new regional evolution makes sense, as owls are also prominent in Greek mythology.
Owls in Greek mythology are representations of the Greek Goddess of War and Wisdom, Athena, and they were heavily used as symbols in the ancient city of Athens. Noctowl’s new Psychic/Flying-type evolution could be a way to represent Athena as the Goddess of Wisdom instead of her warfare connotation.
Dual Psychic/Flying-type Pokemon aren’t new to the Pokemon franchise, but the new dual typing could give Noctowl an increased appeal and edge in battle compared to its basic Normal/Flying-type, which several other bird Pokemon already utilize for arguably better results than Noctowl. Given Athena’s connection to wisdom and warfare, Xenian Noctowl’s evolution could get a boost in both Special Attack and Defense stats to make a more worthwhile addition to trainers’ teams. However, this rumor about Noctowl may be too good to be true, as the leak divulged a lot of information connecting new gameplay features to Greek mythology and Pokemon leaks this far ahead of any official details are seldom correct.
Potential Noctowl Evolution Alternatives in Pokemon Gen 10
If some of 4chan’s recent Pokemon Generation 10 leaks turn out to be false, there could still be a way for Noctowl to gain a new form of prominence for the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Several other Pokemon Generation 10 leaks and rumors have suggested that the new games will take place in a Greek-inspired region, so that aspect may turn out to be true. If so, Game Freak could still give Noctowl a new evolution with the same premise, as owls’ prominence in Greek mythology wouldn’t change as a fact. It could even get a new type, like Fighting/Flying, that could be better connected with Athena’s title of Goddess of War. Visually, Game Freak could give this new Noctowl evolution a helmet inspired by ancient Athenian Hoplites or citizen-soldiers similar to armored owls seen in the Guardians of Ga’Hoole book series.
