No pirate or marine in One Piece is going to complain about having a Devil Fruit that enables them to obliterate their opponents at close range with an explosive attack, but not everyone enjoys getting up close and personal in a fight. While the majority of Devil Fruit abilities seen in One Piece are designed for close-quarter combat, considering these powers can take on completely unpredictable forms, it’s inevitable that there would at least be a few that excel at dishing out damage from a long-range distance too.
While some of these are specifically designed to attack enemies from a safe distance, there have also been a few fruits that are only used in such a way because of the creativity of their users. It should go without saying, but being able to pick off an enemy without putting yourself at risk is a massive advantage for a marksman and their crew, and this certainly applies to these Devil Fruit abilities below, which are among the most reliable, powerful, and versatile overall when used at long range.

Mark Mark Fruit
Nobody Can Hide From This Fruit’s Ability Once They Have Been Marked
- User: Vander Decken
- Type: Paramecia
If this Devil Fruit sounds a little obscure, it’s because the person who possesses it, Vander Decken, is a pretty forgettable character who only shows up in the Fishman Island arc, and to say he wasted his ability would be putting it mildly. The way this fruit works is, once Decken marks someone, he can then throw out a projectile from his left hand, which will seek out his victim no matter how far away they are, or if they try to hide.
Vander Decken uses this to try and hurl objects at Shirahoshi, whom he is helplessly in love with, but it’s obvious that if the host of this fruit weren’t such an oddball, it could be extremely powerful. For example, all a person would have to do is throw out an explosive or even a sharp sword to take down an opponent before they even know what’s hit them, so it’s an ability that any long-range combatant would be desperate to have.

Ice Ice Fruit
The Former Admiral Can Freeze His Enemies In Place From Afar
As someone who had managed to earn the title of Admiral, it was always clear that Aokiji was immensely powerful, and while he’s a skilled hand-to-hand fighter thanks to his training under Garp, he’s also a pretty deadly combatant at range, too. Since he can create and manipulate ice at will, Aokiji uses his Ice Ice fruit not only to bulk up his defense but also to freeze his enemies from miles away, as he has demonstrated on numerous occasions.
During the Marineford War, for example, he was able to freeze Whitebeard solid with an Ice Ball before the mighty pirate could even land his attack, and he did the same to Doflamingo in Punk Hazard while standing a few meters away from him. The truth is, there aren’t many people in the world of One Piece who can hold their own against Aokiji in a ranged battle, unless they have enough speed to avoid his attacks without first being covered in ice.

Slamming Enemies Down To The Ground From Long Range Is Fujitora’s Specialty
- User: Fujitora
- Type: Paramecia
Fujitora may be a talented swordsman, but when he’s not clashing blades with a pirate, he will instead try to take them out by either slamming them into the ground or, instead, crushing them with an object from the sky. He’s able to achieve this thanks to his Devil Fruit, the Rumble Rumble fruit, which gives the blind Admiral the ability to control gravity itself. This caused some serious problems for the Straw Hats back in Dressrosa when Fujitora was pursuing them in their escape.
He would even go as far as to lift an entire city of rubble, allowing him to crush everyone in sight, if he were as ruthless as his fellow Admirals, that is. Needless to say, Fujitora doesn’t always need to get close to his opponent to strike fear into their eyes, and while his killing potential might not be as reliable as some of the other Admirals, he is still a powerful Marine who possesses an extremely versatile fighting style.

String String Fruit
Doflamingo Has Found All Kinds Of Sick And Twisted Ways To Eliminate His Enemies From Range
- User: Doflamingo
- Type: Paramecia
While it’s always useful for a person to eventually figure out how to use their Devil Fruit abilities to full effect, Doflamingo takes this to a whole new level. Since he can manipulate strings, Doflamingo has an entire arsenal of deadly techniques that he can unleash during an intense fight. For example, his Puppet ability, where he digs his strings into a person’s spine, allows the Warlord to control a target from a safe distance, so that he doesn’t even need to lift a finger to deal damage.
If he does decide to get directly involved, though, he can throw abilities such as Overheat, where he burns one of his strings to use as a long whiplash. These are just a few examples of how Dressrosa’s tyrannical underground pirate can harm and manipulate his opponents without needing to get too close for comfort, making him one of the trickiest opponents Luffy has ever faced in his adventure so far.

Flame Flame Fruit
Ace Could Sizzle His Foes In Mere Seconds Without Needing To Put Himself In Danger
- Users: Ace/Sabo
- Type: Logia
Ace only shows up very briefly in a handful of story arcs, but in that time, he was able to demonstrate why exactly his Flame Flame fruit is considered so immensely powerful, and why it’s one of the most highly sought-after fruits in the series. Ace could summon giant beams of flames from his palms to scorch anyone who stood in his or Whitebeard’s way, or if multiple enemies were facing him at once, he could even create a giant flame tornado to sweep everyone up in one go.
Sabo, who would come to inherit the fruit after Ace’s tragic death, would also showcase the long-range potential of this devastating fruit, especially when he was able to blow back the behemoth known as Jesus Burgess with a giant fireball; far from an easy feat. It’s no wonder that so many pirates are eager to get their hands on this fruit’s ability, considering how easily it can scorch someone to a crisp without the user needing to put themselves in too much danger.

Light Light Fruit
Kizaru Fires Intense Bursts Of Light To Blind And Harm Dangerous Pirates
Since Kizaru was made a Marine long before the main story even kicks off, it means he already has full mastery over his Light Light fruit when he first shows up to cause trouble on Sabaody. Not only does this Devil Fruit allow Kizaru to move at the speed of light, but he can also control light itself to fire giant beams, which are virtually impossible to evade. One of these projectiles is already more than enough to blow a hole through a pirate, but very often, Kizaru will decide to shoot down a barrage of beams at once to make sure none of his targets escape with their lives intact.
That’s not all, as in Egghead Island, Kizaru also showed off a new technique where he’s able to create multiple clones of himself to play mind games with his enemies, all while he can remain hidden in plain sight to plan his next attack. While Luffy was able to stand his ground against Kizaru thanks to the overwhelming power of Gear 5, this is only because he possesses a god-like Devil Fruit, which also enhances his combat range, but any pirates who are only classed as close-range fighters will never stand a chance against the infamous Admiral.

Human Human Fruit, Model: Nika
Luffy Thoroughly Enjoys Pummeling His Opponents From Afar
Having a body made of rubber certainly has its perks, as while it drastically increases Luffy’s durability, since he can absorb all kinds of hard-hitting attacks, it also allows him to extend his limbs to an absurd degree. In the early arcs of the story, he would use this to power up his punches before firing them out in a flashy, explosive blast, but the range of his Devil Fruit techniques has only increased as the story has gone on. For example, after unleashing his Snake Man form against Katakuri, Luffy was able to duke it out with the Sweet Commander from the other side of the arena, thanks to his increased range, to ensure he wouldn’t get caught out by her sticky mochi attacks.
Upon Awakening Gear 5, he’s been able to extend even further, and has even shown off a few other ranged abilities, such as turning the floor into a giant bouncy castle to throw his enemies off guard, or simply extending his arm as far as the eye can see. Luffy’s Devil Fruit is one that only seems to be getting stronger with time, to the point where he is now essentially a god, with how effortlessly he’s able to take down his opponents, no matter whether they’re right in his face or firing at him from miles away.

Enel Was Striking Down His “Loyal” Servants Across His Sky Islands
When the Straw Hat crew finally reaches the Sky Islands, they quickly realize that the people who live there are being ruled over by a vicious tyrant known as Enel. Though Enel can often be found lounging around in his palace, munching on apples and cleaning out his ears, the reason he’s so frightening is that his Devil Fruit, which allows him to shoot out bolts of electricity, can be used anywhere and at any time.
Thanks to his excellent Observation Haki, Enel can annihilate any of his servants who decide to ridicule him or who he suspects are planning a coup, which he will immediately shut down by shooting them with a strike of lightning. It’s honestly staggering just how far-reaching this ability truly is, and considering it can also kill the average person with a single blast, the fact Enel was introduced so early in the story is pretty bizarre, considering he’s one of the strongest characters in the series, especially at long range.
