The new “Deluxe GO Pass” for Pokemon GO‘s Max Finale event comes with a major caveat to one point promised by the premium battle pass. Pokemon GO has seen an exciting year throughout 2025 with lots of major new events and additions to the game, from new Pokemon and evolutions to a variety of events. Pokemon GO has added everything from the Snom and Honedge evolution lines to the introduction of the new “Crowned” forms for Zacian and Zamazenta. Now, the game’s multitude of summer events have all culminated in the “Max Finale” event with a special Pokemon.
Pokemon GO‘s Max Finale event has promised fans the first chance to pick up one of the most notable Pokemon from the franchise’s eighth generation. Max Finale officially introduced Pokemon Sword & Shield Legendary Pokemon Eternatus to the game as its main spotlight Pokemon, adding raid battles for the fearsome Pokemon’s “Eternamax” form. Eternatus can only be encountered in Tier 6 Raid Battles during the event, requiring teams of 100 players to come together to battle against Eternatus. However, a new premium pass for Max Finale has a significant catch to its rewards.
Pokemon GO player JustKitten_RightMeow shared their discovery from a Niantic Support conversation on the game’s official subreddit. The post reveals that the increased shiny odds from the Max Finale Deluxe GO Pass may not extend as far as fans had initially believed, said to only affect the Pokemon encountered through the Pass’s rewards. The support conversation suggests that the boosted Shiny odds do not extend to other Dynamax encounters, contradicting the Pass claiming to increase Dynamax Battle Shiny rates. Niantic has not made an official statement on the claims, outside the support conversation.
Pokemon GO Max Finale Deluxe Pass Has a Major Catch
The dispute over the Deluxe GO Pass Shiny rates comes as the Max Finale recently brought some major changes to coincide with the event. Coupled with the introduction of Eternamax Eternatus, Niantic raised the player limits for Pokemon GO‘s Gigantamax Battles, with the previously-mentioned new limit of 100 players being required to battle Eternatus. Pokemon GO fans have also theorized that Niantic’s new raised player limit for Raids could potentially lead to an increased difficulty for Raids, with more players now able to team up against individual Pokemon.
While Pokemon GO‘s Max Finale event will serve as one of the year’s highlights, Niantic looks to have plenty on the way following Pokemon GO Fest’s conclusion. The developer has already revealed one of the next Pokemon to be added to the game, with next week’s “Sunkissed Shores” event bringing the introduction of ninth-generation Pokemon Dondozo. Fans are also speculating that Pokemon GO may be planning to add Tera Pokemon in the near future, with Max Finale expected to wrap up the game’s focus on Pokemon Sword and Shield. Pokemon GO fans should have lots in store in the future, even as Max Finale comes to a close.
