2K has confirmed that it will be shutting down both The Golf Club 2019 and PGA Tour 2K21 on October 30. Sports games from 2K and other publishers are shut down on a semi-regular basis, typically due to things like expiring licenses and players moving on to the newer games in the series.
As one of the industry’s premiere sports publishers, 2K has shut down the servers for a variety of games over the years. Still, the rate of 2K shutdowns does not seem to match those of competitor EA, who keeps a running list of its games that are shutting down. In any case, fans of 2K’s games should take note of two titles that are having their servers shut down on October 30.
It’s been confirmed by 2K that it will be shutting down The Golf Club 2019 and PGA Tour 2K21. At that point, the online functionality of those games will cease to exist. In turn, this will make certain achievements/trophies and rewards completely unobtainable. Needless to say, anyone interested in experiencing the online multiplayer for The Golf Club 2019 or PGA Tour 2K21 should make it a point to do so by October 30. In the meantime, microtransaction purchases for both games are no longer available. 2K has not given any official reason as to why the games are being shut down.
List of 2K Games Shutting Down Soon
- The Golf Club 2019 – October 30
- PGA Tour 2K21 – October 30
Fans of golf video games may be disappointed that The Golf Club 2019 and PGA Tour 2K21 are being shuttered, but the good news is that there are newer golf titles to play from 2K. PGA Tour 2K23 was released in 2022 to mostly positive reviews, while PGA Tour 2K25 dropped earlier this year to an even better reception. Both The Golf Club 2019 and PGA Tour 2K21 earned weaker review scores than 2K23 and 2K25, so it seems the newer games are generally considered the better products anyway.
Unfortunately, fans can expect future 2K sports games to shut down over time. The WWE 2K games seem to have a particularly short shelf-life, with WWE 2K23 shut down earlier this year. If the pattern holds, it’s likely that WWE 2K24 will have its online modes shuttered in a matter of months. Nothing official on that front has been announced at the time of this writing, however.
As far as new 2K Sports titles go, NBA 2K26 is scheduled to release on September 5, while WWE 2K26 is most likely releasing in March of next year. No new PGA Tour 2K game has been announced yet, but since the series doesn’t adhere to an annual release schedule, it’s hard to say exactly when PGA Tour 2K25‘s replacement will be out.
