MachineGames, the developer of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, has discussed the play patterns of people who play the game via Xbox Game Pass.
Speaking to The Game Business, design director Jens Andersson said the aim was to make The Great Circle “the most accessible MachineGames game so far,” and it being on Game Pass meant that anyone with a membership could give it a shot. The data coming back to MachineGames showed that Game Pass players would “jump in for five minutes and they drop out.”
“You can take a certain amount of decisions based on that, but at the same time, you don’t want to make too many concessions,” Andersson said. “It needs to be a great game for the player who plays all the way through. That’s the most important part for us, being the story-centric studio as we are.”
Overall, Andersson described this as “a hard balance” to strike for The Great Circle. “You always know that you should worry about that more, but at the same time, you care about the grand scheme of things,” he said.
The Great Circle launched in December 2024 for Xbox Series X|S and PC before coming to PS5 in April 2025. A Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game is coming in 2026, but a release date has not been announced.
Next up for The Great Circle is the game’s new expansion, Order of Giants, which launches on September 4. MachineGames doesn’t have any announce upcoming projects, but Lucasfilm has said it would be “super interesting” to tell more Indiana Jones stories in gaming.
