Best Counters for Shiny Chien-Pao Tera Raid Battle
- Iron Hands: With Belly Drum and Drain Punch combo is the most straightforward strategy to beat Chien-Pao (even as a solo player). Use Belly Drum to trade off HP for max attack, then Electric Terrain and Drain Punch, and keep repeating until Chien-Pao falls. Thanks to the Metronome, it will snowball beautifully, causing more and more damage as Iron Hands recovers its HP. BE careful, though, if Chien-Pao uses Ruination in the first turn, Iron Hands will lose 50% of its HP, so Belly Drum will leave it exposed. When Chien-Pao resets stats, repeat the strategy or vary with Swords Dance to avoid being overwhelmed during the Tera Stage.

- Urshifu (Rapid-strike): An aggressive build for Urshifu (Rapid-strike), which has less effectiveness than Iron Hands, but becomes even more powerful as the combination of Swords Dance and Bulk Up can make it become a formidable bruiser. Once players have finished setting up (while using Drain Punch to heal when needed), they can let loose with Focus Punch during the Tera Stage, breaking Chien-Pao apart in a few turns.

- Corviknight: This Flying/Steel Pokemon is a decent option to counter Chien-Pao’s Ice and Dark-type moves. Its combination of Screech and Hone Claws can effectively decrease Chien-Pao’s defenses, while boosting Corviknight’s power. Then, using Iron Head to deal consistent damage and Roost whenever it’s necessary to recover. Terastalize will boost the power of Iron Head, though players need to refresh stat boosts before, since when Chien-Pao enters Tera phase, it will reset all stat changes on the Pokemon present in the field.

How To Beat Shiny Chien-Pao in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Shiny Chien-Pao is a dangerous opponent, since it has a move called Ruination that will decrease the Pokemon’s HP by 50% (based on their current HP). This will effectively push all members of the party into a corner if not taken carefully, and counters Meta strategies like Belly Drum boost.
Chien-Pao is an Ice/Dark-type Pokemon, vulnerable to Rock, Bug, Steel, Fairy, and Fire, and extremely vulnerable to Fighting (receives x4 damage). So, the best strategy is to attack it with Fighting-type moves, be it as a team or in solitary mode.
