This article will cover several S-rankers who have not debuted in the anime and will also discuss the fate of some of the heroes.
Solo Leveling’s 2nd season ended with the defeat of the Ant King, who would become one of Sung Jin-woo’s strongest shadows, named Beru. It was also the introduction of Sung Jin-woo as clearly the strongest Korean hunter and one of the most powerful in the world.
The Jeju Island arc showed off a lot, but it was a battle that involved multiple S-ranked hunters, many of whom met their end. With such a heavy hit to the S-rank population, who were the ones left alive? Season 3 of the anime will likely show off who’s left and even introduce fans to some new characters to delight and entertain.
Jonas
The Brazilian Representative
If there is any criticism of Solo Leveling, it is that the side characters didn’t always get a chance to shine, and this included powerful individuals like Jonas. The Brazilian was the strongest hunter in his country and was considered the 6th strongest in the world.
He was simply given a throwaway role as the victim of the monarchs, and readers never got a chance to see him in action. However, he wasn’t involved in the Jeju Island arc and was still alive and active in his country against the forces of evil.
Lim Tae-Gyu
The Most Unassuming S-Ranker
As the leader of the Fiend Guild, one would be forgiven for imagining Lim Tae-Gyu to be a brash man who leads fearlessly, but in truth, he is something of the opposite. Even though he is an S-rank, Tae-Gyu isn’t the most confident character and is one who is a lot more laid-back.
That said, he is still one of the 10 Korean S-rankers, which makes his powers considerable. He is a ranger with abilities that make him suitable for distant enemies. His son would later turn up in the Ragnarok story, but was an E-rank.
Reiji Sugimoto
Misplaced Confidence
Reiji Sugimoto was the reliable vice-captain of the Draw Swords Guild, the same that partnered with the Koreans in the Jeju Island arc. He stayed behind on a vessel offshore to monitor the raid and wasn’t with his group when they went up against the ants.
He was the last person to hear Goto Ryuji alive and was also the one tasked with the sobering task of informing the Chairman of the Japanese Hunters Association, Matsumoto Shigeo, of the death of Japan’s strongest hunter. He never got into action, so little is known about his abilities.
Baek Yoonho
Fought To Have Sung-Jinwoo, But Lost
The guildmaster of the White Tigers guild is a man who is always on the look out for talented hunters, as was demonstrated by his desperate pursuit for Jin-woo’s signature to join his guild. He is one of the first major S-rankers people meet in the story.
He is able to take on the powers of a tiger and utilize them against enemies. Yet, he is considered one of the weaker S-rank hunters and it is believed he might be the weakest S-rank. However, he has been able to build a successful guild that is one of the best in Korea and was a dear friend to Min Byung-Gyu.
Choi Jong-In
One Of The Coolest Hunters
The Hunters guild is arguably the biggest in Korea and boasts of powerful hunters including the incredible Cha Hae-in. Their leader, Choi Jong-in is one of the strongest hunters in the country and he has all the coolness factor. Choi was also desperate to get Jin-woo on his team, but ultimately lost out.
He is able to manipulate fire in various ways many of which are pretty creative. Against the ants, he deployed a ‘fire net’ which was used to keep the ants out from getting back to their base to protect their queen. He was no match for the Ant King and was really close to death.
Minoru Hoshino
One Of The Few Lucky Survivors
Minoru Hoshino had front row seats to the scariest show in town as he was in the same party that had Goto and Ishida and he watched the two men die in one hit against the Ant King. He was just about able to escape the island, but was deeply traumatized.
Before then, he had been part of the sparring match with the Korean hunters and there he defeated Lim Tae-Gyu which showed off just how strong the Japanese hunter was. He was also one of the ones to hold Goto back when the latter wanted to keep attacking Sung Jin-woo.
Ma Dongwook
An Affable Man
S-rankers tend to be serious and stoic individuals, Dongwook breaks that mold as he is a well-liked, outgoing, and friendly man, even though he is an S-rank with immense strength. He was one of the ones who sparred with the Japanese delegation when they came around.
While he was defeated, he never lost his spirit, and he was a source of encouragement when the team went against the ants. He was also lucky not to meet his end, as in truth he isn’t the strongest S-ranker even with his large size, and the ability to manipulate his size.
Kanae Tawata
A True Survivor
Kanae was part of the delegation of Japanese hunters that came to Korea before the Jeju Island raid and she also sparred against Cha Hae-in whom she lost to. She was a survivor of the Jeju Island arc and was the one who found Hoshino after the death of Ishida and Goto.
She was also a part of the team that fought against giants and monsters in the Japan crisis arc where a lot of people died. She was able to make it out of there too and it was in that conflict she realized the true gap between her powers and that of Jin-woo.
Hwang Dongsoo
The Villain Who Would Become Greed
Hwang Dongsoo played the role of a spectre hovering over Sung Jin-woo and a showdown between the two seemed inevitable. This was due to the whole kerfuffle involving Hwang Dongsuk where he had tried to kill Jin-woo, who took him out instead.
Dongsoo swore revenge and when he saw he wasn’t strong enough, even roped Thomas Andre into the conflict. He will probably feature heavily in season 3. He met his end at the hands of Jin-woo and would become one of the few humans that was turned into a shadow.
Jay Mills
Canada’s Finest
Canada’s strongest hunter was also a man that did not get a lot of screen time before being ended by the monarchs. He was warned by Sung Jin-woo about the coming of the monarchs, but didn’t take it seriously and was quite confident in his strength.
He is yet to show up in the anime, but even when he does, odds are that he would not be around for a very long time. He did show up again in the Ragnarok story having made it in the revised timeline.
