The owners of a resale shop in La Puente, California, are asking for help in identifying four young suspects who are accused of breaking into the store and stealing approximately $30,000 worth of Labubu dolls. The four suspects in the Labubu case were seen on security footage wearing masks and hooded sweaters to conceal their identities.
Originally released in 2015, Labubu figures are based on character designs from a figurine line called “The Monsters,” and have been produced by China-based Pop Mart since 2019. Labubu was created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, who based The Monsters on elf-like beings from Nordic mythology and folklore, which in turn was sparked by his upbringing in the Netherlands and Belgium. The popularity of Labubu dolls took off in 2024 after Lisa from the K-pop group Blackpink was seen with a Labubu keychain on her bag, which quickly grabbed attention.
Four Suspects Absconded With $30,000 Worth of Labubus
The value of Labubu figures has since spiked, along with a resale market dedicated to the sale of the popular dolls. However, one such store was recently targeted by thieves, as reported by Dexerto. According to Joanna Avendano, the owner of One Stop Sales in La Puente, California, the robbery took place on August 6, at approximately 1:30 AM Pacific. Security camera footage from the robbery was posted on the shop’s Instagram feed, which showed four suspects ransacking the store and taking an estimated $30,000 worth of Labubus. Avendano said that the four suspects only took the Nordic myth-inspired dolls from the shop and ignored all the other goods. The suspects are stated to be four males, but each wore a mask and a hooded sweater to avoid being identified by the security cameras.
While some of the items were recovered two days later, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the Labubu robbery. No arrests have been made in connection with the case as of this writing. Given that the Labubu figure line has crossed over with franchises like One Piece and Coca-Cola, the popularity of the Chinese collectible is at a fever pitch. While most Labubu dolls retail for $30 on sites like Amazon through pages run by Pop Mart, the resale market has made them a target for thieves.
However, Labubus are not the only popular collectible that has been targeted by robbers, as the Pokemon TCG has seen its share of heists over several years. A Pokemon TCG card collector had a $5,000 Charizard card taken from them after an assault in April 2025, and the card was never recovered.
