Ritual of Raven is a new isometric farming and life simulator that shares a lot in common with Stardew Valley while still managing to step out of its shadow, thanks to creative gameplay elements like magic and Tarot cards. Ritual of Raven was developed by Spellgarden Games and published by Team17, the company behind successful games like Date Everything.
Gameplay-wise, Ritual of Raven mixes cozy farming simulation with magic and exploration. Unlike games like Stardew Valley, where the player handles most of the agricultural tasks, Ritual of Raven lets players outsource them from the start. With the help of magical entities called Arcana Constructs, fans can create, customize, and automate a massive farm without touching the plants. Tarot cards also play a key role in gameplay, serving as the main way to enchant more magical beings and expand the farm.
Ritual of Raven Steam Demo Is Out Now
Fans intrigued by the game’s charming isometric visuals or Stardew Valley-esque mechanics can currently download the Ritual of Raven demo on Steam and play the first few minutes for free. The cozy farm simulator is set to release on August 7, so those who enjoy the demo won’t have to wait long for the full version. As for the price, Ritual of Raven will retail for $15, but there’s currently a 10% discount, bringing the cost down to around $13.50 until August 14.
Unlike other games like Stardew Valley, Ritual of Raven shifts the gameplay focus from harvesting crops or fighting monsters to discovering new aspects of the world. Players receive the Book of Shadows immediately after entering the farm, and they are meant to fill it with their discoveries. These findings later help them progress the story or unlock new content.
Similar to Stardew Valley‘s romance mechanics, Ritual of Raven features a friendship meter that lets players bond with other characters. Raising the friendship level reveals more of each character’s backstory and sheds light on different parts of the lore. There’s also a unique fishing mini-game, where players extract random objects from magical portals instead of catching fish from ponds and lakes.
It remains to be seen how well Ritual of Raven will perform in terms of sales and whether it can capture the attention of cozy simulation game lovers. Still, given the developer’s previous success with the relaxing 2023 sim Sticky Business, this new magic-filled farming game is likely to resonate with the same audience.
